A couple of weeks ago, I put both kids in swimming lessons. My friend, Leah, has a friend at work that has taught private lessons in past summers and so she asked her if she would be willing to teach a group for a couple of weeks. We set up times so it would be more of a 2 on 1 private lesson and my friends, Jennifer and Melissa, so graciously offered for us to use their parent's pool. Cooper got to be paired with his bestie, "the other Cooper", and Kyleigh was by herself for a 30 minute lesson.
Both the kids did really well and I was so proud of Cooper for somewhat overcoming his fear after an incident on the first day. We had just gotten to the pool and Cooper was so excited to get in that right after he stepped down into the water he got a little too excited and migrated to the deeper water and went under. His teacher, Miss Gretchen, immediately grabbed him and pulled him out but it was all ready too late. He was traumatized and I'm surprised that he even continued on with the lesson after that. He tends to take things a little hard and he definitely DOES NOT forget anything!
They learned how to "crawl" around the pool using the side, jumping off the side, kicking their legs, cupping their hands to "swim", blowing bubbles, going under a few times (probably way more than Cooper wanted), and using goggles to look under the water and retrieve things. Kyleigh is our little fish and she took right to everything she was taught. She had absolutely no fear of anything she was asked to do and I think she had a great time. We plan on continuing to work with the kids throughout the rest of the summer and I'm hoping we can get Miss Gretchen again next summer because we loved her!
Sidenote: I'm sorry I didn't get any pictures of Cooper during his lesson. Kyleigh went first so I was busy chasing her during his lesson and trying to keep her out of the pool all the while trying to keep Cooper in the pool!
