National Night Out 2012

All over the US, people in all kinds of different neighborhoods got together last night at the neighborhood park or at someone's home.  We have several new homes being built in our neighborhood and lots of new people moving in and so my neighbors, Liz and Jeff, decided to invite everyone over to their home for a party.

To my surprise, we had a fantastic turnout!  Apparently it's a very big deal in Bryan-College Station because we found out that there were around 70 parties in our area!!!  If you register your party with the City of College Station, they will send over a police car and/or firetruck to celebrate with you.  I was overly impressed when the mayor of College Station showed up at our party!!!  We also had 2 different police cars and a firetruck come in the evening.

I really enjoyed getting to meet all the different people we live around and also the new young families moving into our neighborhood in the months to come.  I'm looking forward to having many more get-togethers with friends and neighbors and our kids are really looking forward to meeting up again with all their new friends!

Update on Kyleigh

My sweet girl is really keeping me busy these days with just the two of us.  We have managed to completely fill up our weeks with lots of fun things to do now that Cooper is going to school 4 days a week.  I believe that Mondays are our only days where we have absolutely nothing to do which is good because Mondays are always hard getting back into the swing of things.

Tuesdays we go to Interact which is a bible study at our church for the ladies in the church.  Kyleigh enjoys her time in the nursery with all her little friends where they do fun crafts, music time, and fun on the playground.  I am studying 1 Peter and I am enjoying it.  I'm learning lots of new ideas and things especially this week because our section was all about submission.  It was so refreshing to hear the ladies in my group who have been married for 40+ years and how they've managed to make it work and have a wonderful marriage all these years.  I can only hope that someday when Daniel and I have been married that long that people ask us the same question.

On Wednesdays Kyleigh is taking her dance class.  It is also going exceptionally well.  Not only is she learning all about ballet she is also learning how to follow instructions and listen to her teacher, Ms. Andrea.  To say that Kyleigh loves Ms. Andrea is an understatement.  She just adores her and her assistant, Ms. Chase.  She looks forward to going to dance every week and especially the chance to wear her pink tights, "sparkle suit", and ballet shoes.  I am so proud of how she's doing and I can only hope that she will find the love of dance that I had at her age.

Every other Thursday, we are going to start going to MOPS at our church.  I am really excited about meeting all the other young moms at our church that I don't all ready know.  I know they do lots of fun things and just enjoy fellowship with other women going through that same season of life.  I am really looking forward to tomorrow as it will be our first time.  They didn't have room in the nursery for Kyleigh in the beginning but I just got the e-mail that we are now officially welcome to join!

Fridays are again another lazy day but I get to enjoy it with both of my kiddos!

Update on Cooper

Cooper has now been in "school" for a month and I could not be happier with the way things are going.  I have to brag a bit on my boy and say that we quit the sippy cup this week cold turkey!  I got lots of encouragement from his teacher to go ahead and try it and I have been pleasantly surprised.....BUT I should also say when I started it he threw one of the worst fits I've probably ever seen.  He is so adamant about keeping things the same way ALL.OF.THE.TIME.  SO I knew that something like this was going to take some major adjusting to but he has done awesome!

They are also working on letters, numbers, colors, and cutting with scissors right now.  They have done some really cool things with each letter and I think Cooper is really enjoying all the fun activities.  A couple of weeks ago the color of the week was red and so the College Station Fire Department brought over a couple of fire trucks and an ambulance for the kids to see.  They talked about fire safety and then let the kids look inside the truck and gave them all hats and Jr. Fireman badges.  Needless to say, I think that has definitely been the highlight of school for Coop because he continually asks me every day when I take him to school if the fire trucks will be there....lol.  He has also decided that this year he wants to be a fireman for Halloween.....better get on that shouldn't I?

I cannot say enough good things about Cooper's school and also his teacher, Mrs. Merritt.  She is absolutely fantastic and I know that God put her with Cooper for a reason.  She is so patient with him and is really encouraging and challenging him to learn and experience new things.  She also told me that when no one else would help them plant their beans in the cups that Cooper was more than willing to help she and her assistant, Ms. Yadira.  I am so very proud of him and can't wait to see what the rest of the school year holds!
